Chaos erupted during a Copa Libertadores match in Colombia. The match at the “Atanasio Girardot” stadium between Independiente Medellín and Flamengo was suspended due to violent incidents involving the home team’s fans.
Shortly after kickoff in Medellín (where… Pablo Escobar made his name), tensions flared among the organized fan groups, who are at odds with the team’s management, as they threw flares onto the field. At the same time, the club president made gestures toward the fans, and that’s when the fans erupted.
After Independiente Medellín’s elimination, Raúl Giraldo (club president), completely drunk, provoked his own club’s fans.

After they began breaking railings and eventually stormed the field, chaos ensued as objects were thrown at players from both teams.
The police intervened to prevent the situation from escalating and used tear gas. Consequently, the players’ physical safety was put at risk, and the referee sent them to the locker rooms, suspending the match.
