Jan Veselý has decided to bring an end to a highly distinguished career. As announced by Barcelona, the Czech center will retire at the end of the current season.

The 36-year-old star, who was named EuroLeague MVP in 2019, made his breakthrough with Partizan from 2008 to 2011, was then selected sixth overall in the draft by the Wizards, and spent three years in the NBA, also playing for the Nuggets.

From 2014 to 2022, he played for Fenerbahçe, with whom he won the EuroLeague in 2019, and was selected three times for the tournament’s All-EuroLeague First Team (2016, 2018, 2019). In fact, while with the Turkish team, he became close friends with Kostas Sloukas, whose son he baptized in 2025.

Since 2022, he has played for Barcelona, and he has been a key member of the Czech national team, participating in the 2021 Olympic Games.
