Following a search, police located and arrested two individuals involved in the theft of a safe from a variety store, following an investigation by officers from the Crime Prevention and Suppression Division of the Thessaloniki Directorate of Criminal Investigation andCrime Investigation Directorate in Thessaloniki.
The suspects are two young men, aged 19 and 23, against whom charges of theft and disobedience have been filed.
The incident took place last Saturday night, when the young men, along with two other accomplices, entered a convenience store in the Analipsi neighborhood, where, after distracting the clerk, they broke into the store’s office and stole a safe containing 4,040 euros and a bag belonging to a store employee.
On Sunday evening, they were spotted driving a private vehicle in Diavata, and in an attempt to evade a traffic stop, they sped up and entered a nearby village, where they were stopped and arrested. The sum of 1,167 euros was found in their possession and confiscated; it was returned to the victim.
It should be noted that the 23-year-old had two outstanding convictions, under which he had been sentenced to 12 months in prison for the crime of theft.
