The police investigation into the brutal murder of the young student from Bangladesh is in full swing, with the 22-year-old suspect, who has confessed to the crime, appearing in court today, Monday, for a detention order to be issued.

Speaking on the program “Alpha News,” Police Spokesperson Byron Vyronos, provided a detailed account of the timeline of the investigation, which began as a kidnapping and ended in a heinous crime.

As Mr. Vyronos explained, the suspect’s arrest took place on Sunday morning following a methodical evaluation of information and evidence, despite the obstacles faced by the authorities.

“The interrogation was no easy task. He made some claims at first and then proceeded to confess,” he noted, adding that the 22-year-old showed investigators from the Larnaca CID the spot where he had hidden the victim’s body, in a secluded area near Kofinou.

The suspect appears to have hidden the unfortunate student “roughly there under some vegetation,” while a knife was also found in the same area, which is expected to undergo forensic examination.

When asked about the time it took to locate the victim—given that ten days had passed since the disappearance was reported— the Press Spokesperson highlighted the difficulties of the case.

“From the very beginning, the police were on high alert. Every day, 24 hours a day, investigators were working on the case. ‘As you can imagine, when it comes to foreign nationals, it’s difficult to obtain witness statements,’ he noted, emphasizing that despite the obstacles, results were achieved.

Authorities are awaiting the official results of the legally mandated autopsy to determine the exact cause of death, although the condition of the body indicates that the crime was committed several days ago.

“The young man’s body is in an advanced state of decomposition. This indicates that death occurred several days ago,” said Mr. Vyronos, while also confirming that the 22-year-old suspect was residing illegally in the Republic.
