Pending the decision of the Council of Ministers regarding the appointment of independent criminal investigators to examine the findings of the Independent Anti-Corruption Authority concerning the book “Mafia State,” as stated today by Police Chief Themistos Arnaoutis.
Responding to a reporter’s question during a press conference at Police Headquarters, which was held to present the results of the Independent Anti-Corruption Authority (YKAN) for the first half of 2026, the Police Commissioner commented on the progress of the case.
Mr. Arnaoutis stated that the Police had already received the report, the minutes, and the list of evidence forwarded through the Public Prosecutor’s Council, noting that the material is now at the disposal of the competent authorities for the next phase of the proceedings.
At the same time, he noted that “given the Council of Ministers’ stated intention to appoint criminal investigators, you understand that we are here and ready to assist in any way necessary. We are standing by.”
Mr. Arnaoutis added that there cannot be a parallel investigation of the case by the police, noting that the next step depends on the decisions of the Council of Ministers.
“We’re holding off and waiting for instructions on the procedure to be followed,” he said, adding that “the police’s assistance will certainly be very important.”
