The 4.9-magnitude earthquake that occurred at 11:25 near Karpathos and Kasos (7 kilometers southwest of Karpathos), as, according to Kasos Mayor Michalis Erotokritos, the earthquake had a focal depth of just 15 kilometers.

As reported to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA-MPA), citing a conversation with Professor Efthymios Lekkas, the epicenter is not linked to the fault line that has caused major earthquakes in the past, but rather is a localized phenomenon. The mayor also noted that the tremor was accompanied by a loud roar and forced residents to go outside; however, no damage has been reported on the island so far.
