A double homicide occurred in Camaiore, Tuscany, near the city of Lucca. A 63-year-old man used a hunting rifle to kill his 52-year-old wife and their 24-year-old son. He then climbed onto the roof of their house, where he remained until the Carabinieri arrived.
After his arrest, the first thing he said to the investigators was, “Finally, I’m free of their presence.” According to testimonies from relatives and neighbors, tension had been running high in the family for some time. “It’s awful to know that your father would rather see you dead than gay,” the perpetrator’s son had written online four years ago.
The 24-year-old had begun pursuing a career in music, and, apparently, his father questioned his sexual identity and complained to a number of acquaintances about his family situation and “how his wife and child treated him.” Yesterday, after yet another heated argument between the perpetrator and his son, the young man’s mother tried to defend him. A few seconds later, the tragic outcome unfolded.
