The U.S. presidency asked Congress yesterday, Wednesday, to approve a supplemental budget of approximately 88 billion dollars, the “largest” portion of which is intended to cover “urgent needs” related to the war against Iran.
More than 67 billion of that amount will be allocated to the Pentagon, specifically for “operational costs” of the war launched by the U.S. and Israel against Iran on February 28 and for “restoring ammunition stocks,” according to a document by White House Budget Director Russ Vot, which was submitted to the federal legislature.
In addition, $11.1 billion is earmarked to assist American farmers.
At the same time, the Department of Energy will receive $672 million for “activities aimed at the complete and verifiable elimination of Iran’s ability to develop or acquire nuclear weapons,” according to the text.
The State Department will receive $300 million for projects to improve security and renovate diplomatic facilities in countries near Iran, many diplomatic buildings were targeted by Tehran during the armed conflict.
“I urge Congress to act on these important and urgent requests as soon as possible,” concludes Russell Vot in his letter addressed to Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson.
