The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, during yesterday’s tour of the city center for European Commission Vice President Raffaele Fitto, Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans Kostas Kadis, as well as representatives and officials participating in the High-Level Conference on the Islands and Coastal Communities of the European Union.
In a social media post on Thursday evening, President Christodoulides noted that the tour took place in the historic center of Paphos, as part of the conference being hosted in the city under the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
“We walked through the historic center of Paphos, a city I know well and where the decisive impact of the European Union on citizens’ daily lives is evident. Squares, buildings, and landmarks that have been revitalized with the help of European funds have breathed new life into the city, while keeping its history and identity alive,” he noted.
“This is Europe in action,” he said, adding that it serves as a driving force that supports cities, communities, and their people.
“And this is our Cyprus as well. A modern island member state of the European Union in the Eastern Mediterranean, with a rich history, culture, and a vital role as a pillar of security and cooperation among the states and peoples of the region,” the President concluded.
