Police in Limassol are investigating the sudden death of a 12-month-old boy.
According to reports, the boy had been feeling unwell in the days leading up to his death, and on Thursday evening he was taken to Limassol General Hospital, where he passed away despite the doctors’ efforts.
The police were notified of the incident, and, as reported to CNA by a police source, the case is being investigated as a sudden death.
The exact cause of death of the unfortunate boy is expected to be determined by the legally mandated autopsy to be performed later by medical examiner Angeliki Papeta.
The timeline of the tragedy
The infant, who would have turned one in two days, had been diagnosed with gastroenteritis a few days earlier.
Specifically, the child had developed a fever on June 23, and his parents took him to the pediatrician the next day, who prescribed medication.
Yesterday, Thursday evening, however, his condition appeared to have worsened, and his father rushed him to Limassol Hospital. The infant had no external injuries but was unconscious, with blue lips, pale, and not breathing.
There, despite the doctors’ superhuman efforts to save him, they were ultimately unsuccessful, and the infant passed away at 11:30 p.m.
