The autopsy performed on the body of the infant who “passed away” just a few days before celebrating his first birthday did not provide any answers.
The legally mandated autopsy was performed by medical examiner Angeliki Papeta, and during the procedure, samples were collected to be sent for laboratory and microbiological testing, while possible genetic causes will be examined at the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics.
It is recalled that the boy had been feeling unwell in the previous days and was taken to Limassol General Hospital on Thursday evening, where, despite the doctors’ efforts, he passed away.
The police were notified of the incident, and a sudden death investigation is underway.

The timeline of the tragedy
The infant, who was set to turn one in two days, had been diagnosed with gastroenteritis a few days earlier.
Specifically, he had developed a fever on June 23, and his parents took him to the pediatrician the next day, who prescribed medication.
Yesterday, Thursday evening, however, his condition appeared to have worsened, and his father rushed him to Limassol Hospital; he had no external injuries but was unconscious, with blue lips, pale, and not breathing.
There, despite the doctors’ superhuman efforts to save him, they were ultimately unsuccessful, and the infant passed away at 11:30 p.m.
