Just a few hours ago, the story of a woman who gave birth to her child amid the rubble shocked the entire world, sending a moving message that life can go on even in the midst of utter devastation. At the same time, however, just a few meters away, another heart-wrenching story was unfolding. A mother sacrificed her own life to save her only daughter.

As soccer player Héctor Beyo revealed, his wife, Andrea, became a human “shield” for their child. In a heart-wrenching Instagram post, he described how the “love of his life” shielded their young daughter with her own body as their home collapsed.

In subsequent posts, the soccer player revealed that he had traveled to Caracas, where his daughter is being treated.

“My daughter and her aunt are doing well. They won’t be discharged today; they’ll remain in the hospital. Thank you all for your support during this unbearable pain,” he wrote.

In another post on his Instagram Story, he expressed his unbearable grief with heart-wrenching words: “How can I explain to our daughter that you lost your life to save hers? And that I wasn’t there to do anything at all? How can I explain this to her? Give me strength now.”

The tragic news was also confirmed by the local soccer press and public relations organization Cumaná de Campeones, which stated: “It is with deep sorrow that we announce that the partner of soccer player Héctor Bello ‘Kike,’ originally from Cumaná, was found dead under the rubble following the earthquake that struck the country. Their daughter, however, survived the collapse of the apartment building where the family lived.”

New Life Amid the Rubble

According to reports and videos circulating on social media, a woman gave birth to her child amid the rubble, with rescuers by her side who rushed to help her. As reported, there were no doctors, electricity, or medical equipment, so volunteers delivered the baby using flashlights.

Thousands of other users from every corner of the world expressed their emotion on social media. “May God bless this mother, her child, and everyone who helped her,” wrote one user.

Although information about the health of the mother and infant remains limited, “the message that comes across in the video is that even amid the rubble, life goes on,” one user noted.

The worst earthquake of the last century in Venezuela

This shocking incident unfolded after two powerful earthquakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 on the Richter scale, which struck northern Venezuela just seconds apart. This is the most severe seismic disaster the country has experienced in more than a century.

The toll so far is heavy: at least 920 people have lost their lives, more than 4,300 have been injured, and tens of thousands remain missing under the rubble.

Rescue teams are racing against time to locate as many survivors as possible amid the rubble.

Heartwarming rescues that give hope to residents

The birth of the newborn was not the only moment that moved the international community.

In another video, rescuers pull yet another infant alive from the rubble, passing the baby from hand to hand with great care. The baby’s first cries prompted spontaneous applause from those involved in the rescue operation.

Particularly moving was the reunion of a mother with her child, who had already been taken by ambulance to a hospital. The woman ran over and hugged the child tightly.

Among the rescues, one that stood out was that of a dog, which was found alive under the rubble. Rescuers gave it water before freeing it, and the animal, wagging its tail, brought a rare smile amid the difficult hours of the rescue operation.

The number of people rescued has surpassed 9,000

Meanwhile, on the website set up by family members searching for their loved ones in the wake of the deadly earthquake, local authorities report that the number of citizens pulled alive from the rubble has exceeded 9,000.

While this is a positive milestone, the number of missing persons remains much higher—approximately 50,000—and is expected to rise in the coming hours.
