Tensions are escalating once again in the Middle East, following attacks on Iranian targets in the Strait of Hormuz region, carried out early Sunday morning for the second consecutive day, by the U.S. armed forces.

A short time later, sirens sounded in Bahrain and Kuwait following an Iranian attack with missiles and drones. The Revolutionary Guards announced that they had struck U.S. military facilities in retaliation for the new U.S. attacks on Iran.

They also claim that “they destroyed eight key U.S. military facilities at the Ali al-Salem base in Kuwait and at the 5th Fleet base in Salman Port, Bahrain.”

U.S. fighter jets struck Iranian military surveillance infrastructure, communications systems, air defense positions, and drone and mine storage facilities.

The strikes were carried out in retaliation for the Iranian attack that took place on Saturday morning against a commercial tanker, according to CENTCOM

Explosions were heard in the Shirik region of southern Iran, with state broadcaster (IRIB) reporting that a telecommunications tower was hit, citing information from an Iranian military official. It also reported that missiles struck a village on Qeshm Island, with no information on casualties.

In addition, there are reports of explosions in Bandar Abbas and on the island of Qeshm, also in the Strait of Hormuz region.

Two to three hours later, sirens were heard in Bahrain and Kuwait, with the armed forces of both countries announcing that they had repelled an attack by Iranian missiles and drones.

It was not immediately clear what the targets of the Iranian missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles were, nor whether there was any damage or casualties.

“The violation of the ceasefire contravenes Article 1 of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and will lead to the complete suspension of all diplomatic proceedings,” according to a statement by the Revolutionary Guards, as reported by Press TV.

“Any hostile attack, regardless of pretext, even against insignificant targets, will receive a relentless response,” the statement emphasizes.

CENTCOM: We Are Responding to Iranian Aggression
In a statement, U.S. Central Command confirmed the strikes and noted: “U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) carried out additional strikes against multiple targets in Iran on June 27, following orders from the Commander-in-Chief.

Following yesterday’s U.S. attacks in response to the Iranian attack on the M/V Ever Lovely, Iran was given the opportunity to honor the ceasefire agreement, but chose not to do so, as its forces launched a suicide drone that struck the tanker M/T Kiku this morning at 4:30 a.m. (Eastern Time). The Panama-flagged tanker was transiting the Strait of Hormuz carrying more than two million barrels of crude oil.

CENTCOM forces launched strikes today in direct response to Iran’s ongoing aggression against commercial shipping.

U.S. fighter jets struck Iranian military surveillance infrastructure, communications systems, air defense positions, and facilities for storing unmanned aerial vehicles and deploying mines.

Commercial shipping continues to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. U.S. forces remain vigilant, ready to respond decisively and on full alert.”
