Several people were injured, one of them seriously, when lightning struck a tree today at a recreational park in Skåne, in southern Sweden, according to an announcement by Tosselilla Sommarland and local health authorities.
“Today, we had a severe thunderstorm in Tosselilla, which caused lightning strikes that directly hit the park. As a result, several people were injured,” Tosselilla Sommarland wrote on Facebook.
Local health authorities later clarified that a 45-year-old woman is being treated for “serious injuries.”
Two other people were taken to the hospital by ambulance, while two adults and five children were treated on site.
“All of them sustained minor injuries,” the Skåne region reported in a press release.
The state-run television network SVT reported that the amusement park had anticipated the storm and had ensured that there would be no visitors on its premises or in the pools of its water park.
However, lightning struck a tree, and branches fell on a group of people who happened to be passing by.
The Swedish Meteorological Service issued warnings today for thunderstorms and heavy rainfall across much of the southern part of the country.
