The government describes the visit of the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy for Cyprus, María Ángela Olguín, to Brussels, which was rescheduled for July 13.
Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letympiotis told CNA that the government was informed that Ms. Olguín’s visit had been rescheduled for July 13. It should be noted that it was originally scheduled for June 28.
“We consider it important and very useful that this meeting with the EU institutions will take place, given the role the EU can play in supporting the efforts of the UN Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy,” Mr. Letympiotis emphasized.
He added that the link between progress in EU-Turkey relations and progress on the Cyprus issue is a stated position of the EU, as reflected in the conclusions of the European Council meeting inApril 2024.
“This is a given. And in light of the new initiative undertaken by the UN Secretary-General, the EU now has the tools and incentives to make progress on both fronts simultaneously,” he continued.
It should be noted that in the meantime, the NATO Summit will take place in Turkey on July 7 and 8.
