The Cyprus issue, as well as matters concerning the European context, were discussed during today’s meeting between the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Anita Dimitriou and the Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs, George Gerapetritis, in Athens.
In remarks following the meeting, Ms. Dimitriou emphasized that “there are many issues, and they relate both to the challenges facing the two countries and the need to move forward in unison, in order to act as defenders of our principles and values, but also, of course, to safeguard those values that we need more than ever these days.”
Responding to a question regarding reports in the Turkish press concerning developments in the Cyprus issue, the Speaker of the House emphasized that we must focus on the actions of our own side in order to achieve real progress toward the resumption of negotiations.
“Greece and Cyprus are committed to this goal, as it is the only way forward. It is no secret that this context also includes the Greek-Turkish dimension and exactly what Turkey is asking for. We discussed these issues, and we are always in step with Greece regarding the appropriate diplomatic moves,” she emphasized.
Finally, Ms. Dimitriou emphasized that it is an honor for her to address the Hellenic Parliament on Tuesday and added that the meeting with the Greek Prime Minister is also particularly important, as they will have the opportunity to exchangeviews on all current issues.
