Will the President of the Republic proceed with a cabinet reshuffle due to the possible appointment of the Minister of Agriculture to schools in Cyprus?
Speaking from the studio of the Alpha News program, Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letympiotis, when asked whether a cabinet reshuffle would take place in light of Maria Panayiotou’s appointment, he replied that it was not a question for him to answer, but rather for Ms. Panagiotou to address regarding whether she intends to accept the position.
“It is not a given that acceptance of inclusion on the list also means acceptance of the position. This is a question that Ms. Panagiotou herself will personally evaluate. Furthermore, the President of the Republic decides whether or not to select individuals to serve on his staff based on whether those individuals, at that specific moment, can contribute more effectively or more quickly to the implementation of his governance program. This is the fundamental criterion, and this is the constitutional right of the incumbent President of the Republic.”
He notes that if and when the President of the Republic makes decisions to reshuffle the cabinet, these will be announced at the time the President of the Republic chooses.
He also states that if the position is accepted, one person will be replaced, emphasizing that a reshuffle is not being carried out for the purpose of selecting a specific individual.
“What matters most is the President of the Republic himself, who evaluates us on a daily basis, and I believe that every day we are all under the scrutiny of society, including him, on how the governance program can move forward. That is what is required, and that is the goal.”
