"Progress is being made, and we hope to achieve the outcome we are seeking, which is none other than the resumption of talks on the Cyprus issue," said the President of the Republic, Mr. Nikos Christodoulides, tonight.
Speaking to reporters as he arrived at the ceremony to rename Argyroupoleos Avenue in Strovolos as Dimitris Christofias Avenue, and when asked whether the delay in Ms. Olgin’s schedule meant that the Cyprus process would be put on hold until she completed her meetings, the President of the Republic said “No, the only thing that is certain is that the effort is not being put on hold; the effort continues. Ms. Olgin will travel to Brussels on July 13, which is also when the NATO Summit takes place; all processes are in full swing, with the aim of convening an expanded conference during which the resumption of talks will be announced. So, nothing has stalled; this major effort continues, we support the Secretary-General’s major effort, and we hope there will be a positive response from everyone.”

He added that “We are at a very critical juncture; we are focused, we are in constant contact both in Cyprus and in New York, as well as at the EU level, with one and only one goal: to achieve a positive outcome.
I would like to remind you that this momentum began through our own efforts and the EU’s more active engagement following the April 2024 Conclusions and the appointment of a special envoy. We had stated from the outset that our goal was to link potential developments in EU-Turkey relations—as Turkey considers progress on these issues a strategic objective—with the Cyprus issue. There is progress in this direction, and we hope to achieve the result we are aiming for, which is nothing less than the resumption of talks.”
