An attempted femicide occurred on Tuesday morning in Limassol, when a police officer shot his wife and took his own life. It all happened before the horrified eyes of an eyewitness who spoke on camera.
The man was on the street in the Zakaki area when he saw a vehicle with the police officer in the passenger seat and his wife in the driver’s seat. As he said, he heard shouting and saw the police officer grab the woman by the throat.
He stopped his car and approached, asking the man to let her go. The man told him to get out of the way and leave, saying she was his wife. The man persisted, so the police officer pointed his gun at him and threatened him.
“She wasn’t speaking; she was waving her hand at me and asking for help. He pulled a pistol from his waist, turned it on me, shouted, ‘I’ll shoot you,’ and at the same time shot his wife and himself.”
In a fraction of a second, the police officer turned the gun and shot his wife three times, then turned the gun on himself and shot himself.
“He shot her right in front of me—he aimed at her head, fired three shots into her body, and then immediately shot himself.”
The eyewitness realized he was a police officer because he was wearing a police uniform; the officer was the passenger and the woman was the driver.
