The controversy continues over the audit of the Office of the Auditor General, triggered by the dispute between Andreas Papakonstantinou and Odysseas Michaelides before the Parliamentary Audit Committee, regarding an internal document from the Audit Service that the leader of the “Alma” Movement requested be submitted to Parliament.
Ahead of the Committee’s new session this coming Thursday, DISY MP Giorgos Pamborides and AKEL MP Christos Christofides shared their views on the Alpha News program regarding the oversight of “internal affairs” of independent institutions.
Mr. Pamborides explained that the House of Representatives can exercise oversight over any agency without getting caught up in disputes or intrigues among officials and civil servants.
For his part, Mr. Christofides noted that the Parliament’s right to oversight is one thing, but its abusive use is another. He also pointed out that if oversight goes beyond the established limits, then the system itself “will reject” such practices.
