Recep Tayyip Erdoğan launched a fierce attack against Israel in remarks he made following a meeting of the Turkish Cabinet.
“We do not take even the slightest bit seriously the slander of the criminal gang that has the blood of 73,000 innocent residents of Gaza on its hands, the majority of whom are children and women,” said the Turkish president in response to the Israeli government’s recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
“In our history, there has been neither genocide, nor massacre, nor oppression, nor colonialism. Throughout our thousands of years of history, there has been only justice and compassion. There is aid provided to all the oppressed, regardless of their religion, origin, or identity,” Erdogan continued, adding: “Those who slander Turkey and the Turkish nation to cover up their brutality in Gaza know this best if they look at their own history. We are a group that conducts politics not in areas of conflict, tension, and strife, but around the shared values of the nation.”
In the same statement, the Turkish president also spoke at length about Turkey’s space program, presenting it as part of the country’s power strategy, while also lashing out at the opposition, which, he said, has exploited Turkey’s Alevis for its own benefit.
