Luck was on the side of the residents of the apartments you see on your screens, as well as the owner of this vehicle, who watched as two balconies landed on top of it.
Along with the balconies, propane tanks also fell into the void, while the residents were searching inside their homes to figure out what had happened.
All of this happened again in Limassol, fortunately without any injuries or fatalities, as had occurred on April 11.
The apartment building—built in the 1980s —was not included in the list of over 1,000 dangerous buildings in the Limassol EOA’s records, but it is on the list of those that have required, for nearly three years now, “This was done by the Limassol Municipality in 2023; I believe that, given the current circumstances, we cannot allow the tenants to return to the apartment building.” Yiannis Tsoulofta, President of the Limassol
EOA According to the President of the Limassol EOA, arrangements were made last night, in cooperation with Civil Defense, regarding temporary housing for the residents of the apartment building.
What has been underway since this morning is an inspection of the building’s structural condition to determine whether the residents will be allowed to return or if it will remain vacant until the danger has been eliminated.
In any case, given the current situation, each owner is free to do as they please.
“There’s also the social issue. Where will all these people go if they’re forced to leave?” Yiannis Tsoulofta, President of the Limassol

As long as balconies—and not just balconies—continue to fall —the process of evacuating residents continues to be problematic.
Take, for example, the apartment complex on the waterfront, where several owners are resisting the process of issuing an eviction order.
“There is resistance from the owners. This highlights the limitations and ineffectiveness of the tools at our disposal.” Yiannis Tsoulofta, President of the Limassol
EOA As for the apartment building in Germasogeia, we are awaiting the completion of critical geological and other scientific studies so that the Limassol Technical Services Department can finalize the investigation file.
According to reports, expert reports indicate that alterations had been made to the apartment building, and defects have also been identified in the soil and the foundations.
