The 46-year-old woman, the victim of the heinous crime that took place in Limassol, remains in extremely critical condition. The next few hours are considered particularly difficult and critical for her survival.

The 46-year-old mother of three, who was shot and wounded in the head and body by her 55-year-old police officer husband, underwent hours of surgery, initially at Limassol General Hospital and subsequently at a second medical facility, where she was transferred yesterday afternoon.

The 46-year-old woman sustained injuries to her head and body from her police officer husband’s service weapon; he subsequently took his own life.

The attempted murder, which is being investigated by the Limassol CID, took place shortly before 7:00 a.m. outside Agios Spyridonas High School in Zakaki. The police officer left the Port Authority office and was seen at some point following his wife in his vehicle in the Zakaki area. Both the victim and the perpetrator stopped outside the school; the 55-year-old got out of the car, got into the 46-year-old woman’s vehicle, and, according to an eyewitness, they began arguing before the fatal incident.

“I turned around, saw him grabbing her by the throat, and told him to let her go. He told me, ‘Get out of here—she’s my wife.’ She wasn’t speaking; she was pointing at him with her hand and asking for help. He pulled a gun from his waistband, pointed it at me, and said, ‘I’ll shoot you,’ while at the same time shooting his wife.”

Authorities are reviewing closed-circuit footage from the area, while the cell phones of both the 46-year-old woman and the 56-year-old man are also under scrutiny. The aim is to determine whether there was any communication prior to the fateful encounter or whether the 55-year-old knew the route the 46-year-old would take and set up an ambush for her.

The suspect is a police officer who began his shift yesterday morning at 6:07 a.m., and it appears that upon starting his shift, he had been issued the specific weapon, which appears to have been used in the incident.

Investigators are taking statements from the 46-year-old woman’s and the 55-year-old man’s friends, family, and colleagues. Information available so far points to financial problems between the couple related to gambling.
