The upcoming presidential elections in France will be held on April 18 and May 2, 2027, a government source told the French Press Agency (AFP) on Tuesday, confirming a report in the newspaper Ouest-France.
“This will be formalized tomorrow (i.e., today, Wednesday) at the cabinet meeting,” the AFP source added.
This schedule was preferred over the alternative option of holding the election a week earlier—on April 11 and 25— as Ouest-France clarified.
Under the French Constitution, the election must be held 20 to 35 days before the end of the five-year presidential term; outgoing French President Emmanuel Macron began his second term on May 14, 2022.
The first round will take place during the spring school break, and the second round will take place the day after Labor Day.
