Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered his country’s armed forces yesterday, Tuesday, to completely destroy what he described as the “infrastructure” of the Shiite Hezbollah movement, which is aligned with Iran, in southern Lebanon, according to his office.

While visiting troops deployed in southern Lebanon, Netanyahu referred to all the infrastructure, both above and below ground, used by the movement’s military wing to attack northern Israel, particularly the underground tunnels.
“This is the order: leave nothing (standing) behind, and you are doing it,” Netanyahu said, according to a statement released by his office via X.

He also said that Israeli soldiers must “act” immediately and “not wait” when they detect a threat to themselves. He also ruled out withdrawing units from the area they have occupied until Hezbollah is “completely” disarmed and “the threat is eliminated.”

For Benjamin Netanyahu, Hezbollah is the most important link in what he calls the “axis of resistance” of forces aligned with Iran. He claimed that only “8%” of the 150,000 rockets that, according to him, Hezbollah possessed remain, and that “9,000 terrorists” have been killed in Lebanon.
Both Hezbollah and the Lebanese government consider the “security zone” that Israel unilaterally decided to establish in the southern part of the country as an occupation, in violation of international law. According to estimates by the Lebanese media, the portion of the country occupied by Israel amounts to approximately 620 square kilometers—or 6% of the country’s territory.
