The 46-year-old woman, who was shot by her 55-year-old husband—a police officer—is fighting for her life; he subsequently took his own life.
According to a spokesperson for the Police Communications Division, the 46-year-old woman remains hospitalized in critical condition at a private hospital in Limassol.
It should be noted that the woman, the victim of the attempted femicide in Zakaki, underwent lengthy surgical procedures, initially at Limassol General Hospital and subsequently at the private hospital where she was transferred and is currently being treated.
The tragedy unfolded on the morning of June 30, outside the Agios Spyridonas High School in Zakaki. The 55-year-old police officer, after passing by the Agios Raphael Marina Coast Guard Station, loaded his service weapon 50 minutes before the start of his shift and, after informing a colleague that he would be going to headquarters at the port for five minutes, he left in his personal vehicle.
According to information from Alpha, the 55-year-old did not appear agitated nor did he exhibit any behavior that would arouse his colleagues’ suspicions.
The police officer was captured on closed-circuit surveillance cameras moving through the Zakaki area and along the route his wife took to get to work. The two met outside the school, and a bloody incident ensued.
The 46-year-old woman sustained gunshot wounds to her face and body.
New information in the case has been provided by the husband of the 46-year-old woman’s daughter, who, in a public statement, refutes reports of financial motives and cites domestic violence as the cause.
