The Water Development Department (WDD) and the Environment Department announce that, due to the upgrade of the Wastewater Treatment Plant in Vati, specific arrangements have already been put in place to ensure the continued service of professional septic tank cleaners in the Limassol district.
During the works, the plant is operating at reduced capacity, which temporarily limits the amount of wastewater it can receive. For this reason, the Water and Sewerage Authority (TAY) and the Limassol District Local Government Organization (EOA) of Limassol have taken coordinated action to meet the region’s needs until the upgrade is completed.
In this context:
- The Wastewater Treatment Plant in Moni is receiving additional volumes of wastewater on specific days of the week to absorb a significant portion of the load.
- The Vathia Gonia plant remains available to transporters, while other alternatives are also being explored to further increase capacity.
- Clear instructions have been given to operators regarding coordinated and scheduled discharges into the EOA network, to ensure the rational management of volumes and the smooth operation of the stations.
The problems that have arisen due to the reduced capacity of the Vati plant are temporary, but are being closely monitored by the Technical Operations Department (TAY) and the Environment Department, which are taking all necessary measures to ensure the environmentally sound and uninterrupted management of wastewater. The upgrade of the plant is expected to be completed by December, at which point its full operation will be restored.
In the meantime, in addition to the above actions, additional solutions are being explored to assist the professionals.
The relevant departments remain in constant consultation with professional septic tank cleaners and the Limassol Chamber of Commerce, with the aim of identifying the most feasible solutions to comprehensively address the situation.
