The 41-year-old superstar converted a penalty kick against Croatia in the 68th minute, becoming the oldest player ever to score in a World Cup knockout match, breaking yet another historic record.
At the same time, he put an end to a… curse that had dogged him throughout the tournament. Up until the match against Croatia, he had played in eight World Cup knockout matches, taking 29 shots on goal without managing to find the back of the net.
In fact, that penalty kick was his only touch inside the opponent’s penalty area during the 81 minutes he played!
