As part of the ongoing efforts of the Drug Enforcement Agency (YKAN) to detect and seize narcotic substances that are imported or attempted to be imported into the Republic of Cyprus, targeted operations were carried out yesterday in the districts of Larnaca and Limassol. To facilitate the investigations, three individuals were arrested and taken into custody.
Yesterday afternoon, following an assessment of intelligence, members of the Drug Enforcement Agency (YKAN) conducted a search at the residence of a 28-year-old man in Larnaca. During the search, the following items were located and seized: a sum of €19,960, a quantity of cannabis weighing a total of 20 grams, two hand-rolled cigarettes containing cannabis, 30 grams of cannabis resin, two pieces of paper containing a solid substance weighing a total of 26 grams, 25 vials containing an unknown liquid substance, an unknown quantity of a crystalline substance, an unknown quantity of a solid substance, and a precision scale. The 28-year-old was arrested and taken into custody to facilitate the investigation.
In a second case, in the Limassol district, members of the Drug Enforcement Agency (YKAN), after evaluating information, located and arrested yesterday two individuals, aged 22 and 28, for the offense of illegal possession of drugs with the intent to supply them to another person. Specifically, around 8:50 p.m., members of the Drug Enforcement Unit (YKAN) observed a 28-year-old man approaching an open area in Limassol and picking up a bag from the ground that appeared to have been left there earlier by the 22-year-oldThe 28-year-old was stopped for questioning, and during the subsequent search, a sum of €3,920 was found in his possession and seized, while in the bag in question, a quantity of cocaine with a total weight of 23 grams and cannabis with a total weight of 140 grams were also found and seized. During a search of the aforementioned open area, a bag containing a total of 45 grams of cocaine was also found and seized.
The arrested individuals are expected to appear in court today for the issuance of detention orders. The Drug Enforcement Agency (Y.K.A.N.) is investigating both cases.
