Julian Nagelsmann is now officially no longer the head coach of the German national team, as announced by the German Football Association (DFB).
As reported, Nagelsmann himself had requested, during a meeting with the federation’s leadership, to be relieved of his duties following Germany’s early elimination from the World Cup. Along with Nagelsmann, his two immediate assistants, Benjamin Glick and Benjamin Hubner, are also stepping down.
“I’ve been thinking a lot over the past few days. The decision was by no means easy. Above all, I always put the team’s success first, and after such a huge disappointment, I believe a fresh start is needed,” said the 38-year-old coach, among other things, thanking the players, the coaching staff, the federation officials, and the fans for their support.
At the same time, the DFB confirmed that it is immediately beginning the process of hiring a new national team coach, with Jürgen Klopp being the top target. In fact, according to the announcement, the former Liverpool manager has already expressed his general willingness to take over the German national team.
