According to a report in Slovenia, talks between Žan Karnitšnik and Omonia are at a very advanced stage, however, the delay in finalizing the deal has given Maribor the opportunity to enter the race for his signature with a strong push.
The report states: “For quite some time now, the Cypriot club Omonia has been touted as the next stop in Karnitsnik’s career. Since mid-May, very intensive negotiations have been underway between the Cypriot champions and Karnitsnik’s camp, with the deal having been at a very, very advanced stage for at least three weeks now. In fact, only the final details remain to be worked out. However, as we know, in soccer “the devil is in the details,” and the prolonged negotiations were exploited by the biggest “shark” among Slovenia’s soccer officials. This is none other than Zlatko Zahovič.

According to our information, in recent days the experienced sports director contacted Karnitsnik and presented him, in a very direct manner, with both the project and the proposal, with the aim of bringing him back to Liudski Vrt, where the player from the Koroška region had established himself at a young age in the “Violets’” reserve team. Our sources also revealed that the 31-year-old was anything but indifferent to Zahovič’s invitation.
Karnitsnik’s priority, however, remains a move abroad, mainly because Cyprus, with its tax regime—which is diametrically opposed to that of Slovenia—is a true financial paradise for soccer players. However, if Omonia continues to drag its feet… The transfer of such a player to Maribor would certainly reshape the balance of power in Slovenian soccer, while serving as yet another example of just how different things are when Zlatko Zahovič is at the helm of Maribor.”
