The Veterinary Services of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development, and the Environment announce that the Decree (No. 5) of 2026 on Animal Health (Control Measures, Prevention, and Containment of Foot-and-Mouth Disease) Decree (No. 5) of 2026 was issued today, replacing Decree (No. 4) of 2026. The new decree was issued in light of the improved epidemiological situation, with the aim of gradually adjusting the restrictive measures without jeopardizing the protection of livestock.
Compared to the previous decree, additional exemptions are provided that allow, subject to authorization by the Competent Authority and under specific conditions, the movement of pigs, cattle, and sheep and goats between farms, as well as the movement of cattle to fattening farms and sheep and goats to collection farms for slaughter. At the same time, certain procedures are simplified, provided that the required vaccination conditions are met and the prescribed veterinary certificates are issued.
The main restrictions regarding grazing, the movement of agricultural equipment, and the remaining measures remain in effect, while restrictions continue to apply in the zones designated by the Competent Authority. The Ministry calls on all stakeholders to continue to strictly comply with the prescribed measures, thereby contributing to the effective protection of Cypriot livestock farming.
