The death toll in Venezuela from last week’s twin earthquakes stands at at least 2,645, according to the latest figures announced by authorities tonight.

According to the country’s Ministry of Information, 12,666 people were injured and approximately 15,000 were left homeless. Yesterday, interim President Delcy Rodríguez reported 2,595 deaths.
The authorities are avoiding mentioning the number of missing persons, but the United Nations estimates that the figure could be as high as 50,000.
