A 54-year-old woman was arrested on charges of hitting a kitten with her car and fatally injuring it in western Thessaloniki.
According to reports, the incident occurred shortly after 6 a.m. last Thursday on a street in the municipality of Ampelokipi-Menemeni.
A citizen reported the incident to the authorities, stating that the woman intentionally ran over the animal. In fact, her actions appear to have been captured on video by a store’s security cameras, and the footage was submitted to the police.
The prosecutor filed criminal charges against the woman for violating the law on the protection of companion animals, and she was summoned to appear before the investigating judge. The 54-year-old denies the charge.
It should be noted that the animal was taken into custody by the relevant municipal department and transported to the Veterinary Clinic of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki for a postmortem examination. Once the procedure is complete, the results will be included in the case file.
