Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated today that peace efforts in the Middle East could not succeed without regional support and that Israel must not bebe allowed to “undermine” the peace agreement between the U.S. and Iran.

Standing alongside Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Istanbul, Erdogan stated: “No solution that does not draw its strength from the will and contributions of the countries in the region can be sustainable.”

Turkey, a NATO member and neighbor of Iran, has repeatedly accused Israel of attempting to undermine the U.S.-Iran agreement-Iran deal—in which Pakistan plays a mediating role—and has condemned Israeli operations in Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria. “We are closely monitoring the Israeli government’s efforts to undermine the (U.S.-Iran) agreement… The current Israeli government, which is addicted to war, must not be allowed to once again drown our region in the stench of gunpowder and blood,” Erdogan said.

At the same time, Erdogan emphasized that Turkey aims to deepen its cooperation with Pakistan in the fields of energy, transportation, critical minerals, information technology, and defense, while simultaneously pursuing a bilateral trade target of $5 billion.

Earlier today, officials from both countries attended a business conference in Istanbul. Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar stated that Turkish companies want to contribute to projects in Pakistan and share Turkey’s expertise in the energy sector, as Pakistan moves forward with the transformation of its electricity sector.
