An alarm was raised at the Hellenic Police following a call from a citizen reporting a strong foul odor coming from an apartment in Pagrati, at 21 Astydamantos Street.
When police officers arrived at the scene, they found two 63-year-old brothers. One was found dead in an advanced state of decomposition among the sheets, while the other was still alive.
It has not yet been determined exactly what happened, and the investigation is ongoing. The 63-year-old brother of the deceased has been taken into custody and is being questioned.
Reports indicate that the two brothers, who lived together, were struggling with mental health issues. According to reports, they are former police officers.
The forensic examination will determine whether the death was the result of a criminal act, while the police are investigating all possible scenarios.
Meanwhile, a neighbor of the two brothers offered her own account, claiming that the man found dead “had been brutally murdered,” adding that the foul odor had been intense for the past three or four days.
As she said, the brothers were constantly causing trouble; referring to one of them—though without specifying which—she added: “He was the terror of the apartment building; he had a serious problem.”
