The Presidency has described DISY’s position on the Great Sea Interconnector as “unfortunate.”

In a statement, Pindarou spoke, among other things, of the government’s double-talk, calling on it “to send a clear and unified message regarding a project of such strategic importance, to have a clear government plan, and to avoid mixed messages that create uncertainty.”

At the same time, he requested a clear update on the status of the due diligence process, what the timeline is for its completion, and when the final decisions are expected to be made.

Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letympiotis stated that “the Great Sea Interconnector is a project of strategic importance for the Republic of Cyprus, our country’s energy security, and its geopolitical advancement.”

“The government is handling this with a unified approach, seriously, and in full coordination with the Greek government, at the highest political level, between President Christodoulides and Prime Minister Mitsotakis.”

At the same time, Mr. Letympiotis notes that “the position is clear and shared: the project must move forward with technical documentation, fiscal responsibility, transparency, and in a manner that serves the interests of the Republic of Cyprus.”

“Therefore, the unfortunate stance taken by the leadership of the Democratic Alarm Party is not merely a criticism of the government. In essence, it also criticizes the common approach agreed upon and set in motion by Nicosia and Athens. Issues of such national and strategic importance require seriousness, responsibility, and the avoidance of pre-election or other political expediency. The Government will continue to act with the sole criterion being the best interests of the Republic of Cyprus.”
