Apollon’s press officer, Fanourios Konstantinou, spoke to “Super Sport 104.0” about the latest news regarding the Limassol-based team.
He began by noting that all necessary medical tests had been conducted regarding Goldson’s health issue. He then discussed the team’s preseason preparations and transfer targets, and also mentioned when Gary Rodrigues will join the rest of the team.
Key points:
On preseason: “We have our second friendly match in the Netherlands against Utrecht at 5:00 p.m. Cyprus time. Efforts are being made to have it televised; we’re awaiting a response from Cyta. The first game was more of a warm-up. Today will be a first test; many players will get playing time against a quality opponent. It will be very important and helpful for Mr. Losada. All the players are available.”
On Goldson: “It’s a delicate matter. It concerns the player personally. We’re standing by him; I’d rather not elaborate. All the necessary medical exams had been conducted. Unexpected things happen; we can’t prevent them. Mr. Papaioannou is handling it with Nikos Kirzis.”
Regarding transfers: “It certainly backfired on us. After we’d found a center back, we went back out on the market for central defenders in the last few days. One or two deals didn’t go through. Offers have been sent, and we’re waiting; it’s a matter of negotiation.”
On Youssef: “There have been no developments.”
On Virtus-Dila Gori: “We’re trying to find someone from the coaching staff in Georgia.”
On season tickets: “The fans have been enthusiastic ever since Christmas. We’ve already reached 4,000, and 6,000 seems like an achievable number. It will also be the first historic European match at Alfamega. We’ll fight to bring joy to these fans who, despite the disappointments of recent years, have stood by us.”
On Gary Rodrigues: “I don’t think he’ll make it to the Netherlands in time. He took a few days off to be with his family and will join the team in Cyprus.”
On transfers and priorities: “A winger and a center forward.”
