Police arrested a 28-year-old man last night in connection with an ongoing drug trafficking investigation.
As part of efforts to identify individuals smuggling drugs into the Republic, following a tip received from the National Anti-Drug Agency (YKAN), members of the Service, in cooperation with Customs Department officials, stopped a 28-year-old man at Larnaca Airport shortly before 7 p.m. yesterday, intercepted a 28-year-old man at Larnaca Airport who had arrived in Cyprus from abroad.
During questioning, the 28-year-old reportedly admitted to carrying drugs inside his body. He was taken to Larnaca General Hospital, where, following medical examinations, it was determined that a large number of foreign objects were inside his body, and he was admitted for treatment.
So far, this individual has expelled six egg-shaped packages containing cocaine, with a total gross weight of approximately 60 grams.
During a procedure conducted today at Larnaca General Hospital, an eight-day detention order was issued against him for the purpose of investigating the case, while he remains hospitalized under guard.
Investigations are continuing by the Larnaca Drug Enforcement Agency.
