The second suspect wanted in connection with the attempted robbery at a jewelry store in Larnaca is now in police custody.

He is a 41-year-old European citizen, who was arrested on Tuesday afternoon by members of the Larnaca Criminal Investigation Department and is expected to appear before the District Court tomorrow for a detention order. Meanwhile, the remand hearing for the 33-year-old co-defendant was adjourned and will resume tomorrow, following a request by his defense counsel due to health issues he is facing.

According to Giorgos Charalambous, Head of the Larnaca CID, members of the Larnaca CID proceeded today at 3:15 p.m. to arrest the suspect wanted in connection with yesterday’s attempted robbery of a jewelry store in Larnaca. 

He is a 41-year-old European citizen. 

He is expected to appear before the Larnaca District Court tomorrow for a detention order to be issued.

The police are investigating the following offenses against the two suspects: conspiracy to commit a felony, attempted robbery, illegal possession of a Class B firearm, assault resulting in actual bodily injury, possession of an offensive weapon, carrying a weapon to instill fear, and unlawful possession and transportation of explosives without a permit from the explosives inspector. 

According to the police, the 33-year-old suspect appeared today before the Larnaca District Court for a hearing on a motion to issue a detention order. 

The police report that “during his detention, the suspect’s attorney, Andriana Klaidi, ‘claimed that the suspect is experiencing health problems due to drug use.’”  

The court ordered that the detention hearing be adjourned and resume tomorrow at 8:30 a.m.

It should be noted that, according to the Head of the Larnaca CID, Giorgos Charalambous, “following examinations and investigations, and after acting on information, members of the Larnaca CID located a vehicle of the same make, make, and color, and with specific characteristics matching those of the perpetrators’ vehicle during the attempted robbery, which was then seized.” 

It states that “subsequently, the driver of that vehicle was identified; he was found to be a 33-year-old third-country national.”

It notes that “during a search of the individual’s residence, two fully loaded rifle cartridges and one machine-gun cartridge were found and seized as evidence, and he was arrested for a flagrant offense.”

Furthermore, “evidence was found and seized at the residence in question that appears to have been in the perpetrator’s possession during the attempted robbery.”
