Marine Le Pen announced on Tuesday evening (Cyprus time) that “she will run in the presidential election” and that “she will not change her mind.”
“I will campaign without an electronic ankle monitor,” she said Tuesday on TF1.

“Since I have the option to appeal to the Supreme Court, this suspends the sentences imposed by the Court of Appeals,” she explained, emphasizing that “tonight, I am a candidate in the presidential election” and “I will not change my mind.”
Earlier today, the Court of Appeals upheld the conviction of Marine Le Pen for embezzlement of public funds. Le Pen was barred from holding elected office for 45 months, 30 of which were suspended —which means she has already served that portion of her sentence, since her initial conviction was in March 2025.
Le Pen had the right to appeal and to request a reduction of her sentence to electronic monitoring by up to half.
She had made it a condition of her presidential candidacy that she not be convicted of a crime requiring an electronic ankle monitor. “When you’re a candidate in the presidential election, you must have complete freedom of movement, and that’s not the case when you’re wearing an electronic ankle monitor,” she told the LCI network.
It should be noted that Marine Le Pen was sentenced in the first instance last year to a five-year ban from elections, with the sentence provisionally enforced, for embezzling funds from the European ParliamentJuly.
Confirmation of this sentence would prevent her from running in the elections on April 18 and May 2, 2027, and Marine Le Pen would have to hand over her seat to 30-year-old Jordan Bardella.
