PAOK defeated AEK Larnaca 3-2 in the Netherlands, making it three wins out of three in their preseason friendlies ahead of the new season!
After the match, the coach of the “Double-Headed Eagle of the North,” Alessio Lisi, emphasized that his team needs to show greater consistency, and then expressed his hope that the squad would be bolstered before their first European match.
Here is what the PAOK coach said in detail: “It
was a strange game, because in the opening minutes I really didn’t like what I saw at all. After the cooling break, we improved. In the second half, we didn’t start off so well—not badly, but certainly not as well as we did at the start of the first half. However, we finished the game strong. It’s a game that shows we need to be more consistent from one moment to the next.
As for whether there was anything else on a tactical level that changed today compared to previous games: “Yes. Yesterday in practice we worked on the build-up with three players, and today we put it into practice in the game. I think it worked well for long stretches. The hardest part of that is avoiding the opponent’s marking, and I think we did a really good job of it. For just one day of work on this, I’m satisfied with what I saw in the game.”
On whether he already has a specific formation in mind: “No, not at all. Many players are performing well, and besides, the transfer window is still open. I hope new players will join before our first European match, so a lot can still change.”
On how long he thinks it takes for a player to adapt to his team: “It depends on the player himself and what he does on the field. There are players who precisely execute what we ask of them, and others who don’t do so to the same extent. That’s why it’s impossible for me to give a specific answer. For example, Tyson just joined us and has been really good. Every player is different, so it’s impossible for me to give a general answer to this question.”
