Tense scenes unfolded in the Argos area, when officers from the Argolis Traffic Police attempted to stop a driver, who refused to comply with the officers’ signals and sped up in an attempt to flee.
According to police reports, during his escape, the driver attempted to ram uniformed officers who were outside their patrol cars, as well as the police vehicles participating in the operation. A chase ensued, during which the vehicle was stopped; however, according to the officers, the driver again attempted to ram the police officers.
He then abandoned his vehicle and tried to flee on foot. At that point, two police officers fired their service weapons, wounding him.
An EKAB ambulance rushed to the scene, picked up the injured man, and initially transported him to a local hospital. He was subsequently transferred to a hospital in Attica, where he is currently being treated.
During a search of the vehicle, an air gun was found and confiscated.
The competent prosecutor was notified of the incident, and the two police officers involved were arrested as part of the flagrante delicto proceedings. Charges are being filed against them for violating firearms laws and for causing serious bodily injury.
At the same time, the prescribed procedure has been initiated to fully investigate the circumstances of the incident.
