The police have lost track of the number of attacks on food delivery drivers. The daily robberies targeting food delivery drivers are causing a headache for authorities, as every measure taken to prevent and combat the problem has failed.
Early one morning, a 21-year-old man from India fell victim to a violent robbery in Limassol. Specifically, three individuals riding scooters approached the young man, who was driving a vehicle, and after cutting him off, they opened the driver’s door and forcibly pulled him out.
“After beating him, according to the complaint, the perpetrators stole 1,800 euros from the car’s glove compartment and fled in an unknown direction.”
The 21-year-old was transported by ambulance to Limassol General Hospital, where he was found to have facial injuries; after receiving first aid, he was discharged.
Gang of youths
Authorities believe that behind the spate of attacks on food delivery drivers are young members of a gang who lie in wait with the intent to attack and rob them. Investigators have in their possession dozens of security camera footage clips from areas where robberies have recently taken place, which they are reviewing to identify the perpetrators.
