The Murder of Christine: 33 Years After It Shocked Cyprus

The catalyst was MP N. Konstantinidi's confession about her mother
ALPHANEWSLIVE

The calendar read June 7, 1993, when the then 28-year-old Christine Konstantinidou, mother of current Member of Parliament Diana Konstantinou, was showing her last signs of life.
“A large-scale police operation is underway to locate the Swedish woman Christine. Uninhabited properties, wells, caves, and other locations will be searched.” “Fileleftheros,” June 29, 1993

For weeks, the Cypriot public followed the investigation and interrogations, to no avail, with the police searching… blindly, as reports from that time demonstrate.

“The fact that she showed no signs of life and that the information the police received intermittently over those 20 days was never verified led the investigators of the Criminal Investigation Division to well-founded suspicions that a heinous crime may well be behind this mysterious disappearance.” “Fileleftheros” June 29, 1993

The End of the Thread

Finally, the end of the thread began to unravel when Antonis Prokopiou Kitas revealed another murder, that of Oxana Lisna from Romania.

The investigation into Oxana’s murder—she was found in a well in Livadia, Larnaca—led the authorities to an unpleasant revelation.

Namely, the admission by the Cypriot “Al Capone” that Christine Konstantinidou is buried at the Kotsiatis landfill.

“During yesterday’s search, three tin barrels were found which, as Al Capone had told the police, were located near the spot where Christine was buried.” “Fileleftheros” 11/01/1993

The End

The days that followed kept all of Cyprus glued to their televisions, watching as her lifeless body was recovered from among the trash.

“Christine’s body points to the killers. It was found after 17 days of searching at the garbage dump.” “Simerini” newspaper, November 18, 1993

Both Kitas and his accomplice were sentenced to life in prison. This case was brought to the public’s attention by MP Diana Konstantinou, who spoke publicly about her mother’s murder, during a debate in the Parliament’s Human Rights Committee on femicides in Cyprus.
