The U.S. carried out strikes in areas of southern Iran just a few hours after U.S. President Donald Trump declared at the NATO summit that the memorandum of understanding with Tehran to end the war “is over.”

Explosions have been reported in Bandar Abbas, a major port city in Hormozgan Province. Another explosion was also heard in Shirik, a coastal city in Hormozgan Province, as well as in the cities of Konarak, Chabahar, and Bushehr in southern Iran.
Iran’s state-run IRIB radio and television network reports that eight explosions were heard in Bandar Abbas, while air defense systems have been activated. The Iranian news agency IRNA reports power outages in Chabahar following the explosions in the area.
It is not yet clear what was hit or whether there are any casualties.
According to a statement from U.S. Central Command, following an order from Trump, U.S. military forces are carrying out additional strikes to further reduce the threat to freedom freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
“The United States holds Iran responsible for the recent unjustified acts of aggression against commercial vessels and civilian crews sailing freely through a vital international waterway ,” CENTCOM stated.
The U.S. military is carrying out strikes against Iranian military targets in the Strait of Hormuz, Axios also reported, citing a U.S. official.
The Nour News
agency is reporting a “massive response.” The Iranian agency Nour News, citing a military source, reported that the Iranian armed forces are set to launch a “massive” attack against U.S. military bases in the wider region.
Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the agreement to end the war with Iran “is over,” and that Washington is likely to launch new strikes tonight, following Iranian attacks on U.S. bases in Gulf countries.
Trump: The agreement “is over”
“If we make a deal with Iran, I’m not sure it will hold (…) because I consider them very dishonest people,” Trump said.
The U.S. president, however, did not explicitly state that Washington would return to full-scale war, and it is not currently clear whether negotiations to reach an agreement will continue.
Later, in a press conference following the NATO summit, Donald Trump defended his handling of the Iran situation, repeating the claim that he himself is a target of Tehran.
“They had leaders, they died… Now they have new leaders. They might die. And you know what, I might die too, because I’m their number one target,” he told reporters.
Trump also said he does not believe a new full-scale war will break out following the strikes exchanged by the two sides. “I don’t think it will start again. I think whatever happens will happen very quickly. They hit one or two ships, so we hit them back harder,” he said.
“Whatever happens will end very quickly (…) and will make the situation safer, including the oil situation,” he insisted. “You can’t allow madmen to have a nuclear weapon,” he also said, while noting that he is “not sure” he wants to strike a deal with the Iranian leadership.
Iran: “Come on, we’re waiting for you”
Iran’s strong reaction was triggered by Trump’s new threats that the U.S. might strike Iran again, this time targeting the island of Kharg—a key hub for Iranian oil exports.
Ebrahim Rezaei, a spokesperson for the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, wrote on X: “Come—we’re waiting for you—and we promise that not a single American soldier will return alive.”
For his part, Ali Akbar Velayati, Iran’s former foreign minister, criticized the “recent escalation,” telling X that Iran had “warned earlier that ‘the region is no place for the political gambles of small nations’ and that it remains ‘with its finger on the trigger to clean up the region.’
“We will close the Strait of Hormuz” in the event of new U.S
. attacks Furthermore, Iran warns that it will completely close the Strait of Hormuz in the event of new U.S. attacks, according to statements by an official cited by the Iranian network Press TV.
The warning comes after remarks by Donald Trump, who, speaking at the NATO summit in Turkey, said that the U.S. would strike Iran again “hard tonight.” According to the same source, Tehran has now adopted a new strategy in response to potential new strikes.
“Iran’s new strategy is as follows: after every strike, the Strait of Hormuz will be completely closed,” the source said.
“In the event of a new attack, Iran will respond by striking twice as many targets.”
At the same time, the same source warned that, in the event of a new U.S. attack, Iran would respond by striking “at least twice as many targets” as those previously hit.
Furthermore, the official added:
“Any threat will receive a strong response; Iran does not distinguish between the U.S. and its regional partners.”
