Over the past 24 hours, police arrested a 54-year-old woman in the municipality of Thermaikos, east of Thessaloniki, following reports about the conditions in which two young siblings, ages 4 and 6, were allegedly living; their mother had left them in her care.
The 33-year-old mother, who works outside Thessaloniki, appears to have entrusted the care of her children to the 54-year-old woman while she was away.
Following an investigation conducted at the arrested woman’s home, in the presence of a social worker from the municipality of Thermaikos, it was determined, according to the police, that the conditions in the home were unsuitable for the children’s residence and posed risks to their health.
As reported, animal waste and a generally unsanitary environment were found in the home. The two children, a boy and a girl, are currently in the care of their uncle.
The Thermaikos Crime Investigation and Prosecution Department has filed charges in the case, and the prescribed procedures are being followed.
