There is no timeline for convening a five-party conference on the Cyprus issue, and it is not expected to take place this summer, Greek diplomatic sources emphasize.
The same sources underscore that Ankara appears to be sticking to its positions, and there are no signs that its stance is changing. In any case, however, they stress that Athens is monitoring the UN’s efforts to restart the process and reiterates, at every opportunity, that a solution can only be found within the framework of UN resolutions and the agreed-upon framework.
Regarding the events at the NATO summit, the same sources note that the existence of a casus belli on Turkey’s part constitutes a formal threat of war and is not diminished either by the passage of time or by public familiarity with it. “It is diminished only by its definitive withdrawal,” as the diplomatic sources noted.
It is added that as long as the threat of war remains, Ankara cannot participate in any European defense framework, such as SAFE.
