The Czech Republic will be the big winner at this year’s Wimbledon, as Saturday’s final will have a… Prague flavor. Just a few hours after Karolína Muchová advanced, Linda Nosková secured the second spot in the final, defeating Marta Kostyuk 6-4, 6-4 in one hour and 28 minutes.
The 21-year-old Czech dominated for most of the match and avenged her loss to the Ukrainian in Madrid earlier this season.
In the first set, Nosková didn’t face a single break point; she consistently put pressure on her opponent’s serve and managed to secure the decisive break in the tenth game to win 6-4.
The second set followed a similar pattern. The Czech took an early lead with a break (3-1), Kostyuk managed to come back and tie the score at 4-4, but at the most critical moment of the match, Noskova broke her opponent’s serve again and then served out the set to secure the biggest victory of her career.
With this victory, Noskova secured her first Grand Slam final appearance and will face her compatriot, Karolina Muchova, for the most important title of her career to date.
At the same time, her run in London will earn her a new career-high ranking, as she will rise to No. 8 in the world rankings on Monday, and if she wins the title, she will climb to No. 7. Mouhova, for her part, has already secured a rise to No. 6 in the world, with the prospect of reaching as high as No. 4 if she is crowned champion.
