APOEL’s press officer, Nektarios Petevinos, in remarks made on the radio station “Super Sport 104.0,” sought to clarify the situation regarding the investment proposal.

Here is what he said in detail

Regarding media reports on developments with the investment proposal: “Allow me to make this clarification to avoid the exchange of arbitrary assessments, presentations, or conclusions regarding the investment proposal and the ongoing discussions with the Cyprus Football Association (CFA).

We are not at the end of the process. On the contrary, this is a complex consultation that is ongoing and evolving. Once the discussions and consultations are completed—and provided the outcome is positive— then this chapter will be closed, and APOEL’s management will issue an official statement detailing everything that has been agreed upon.

At this stage, that has not happened. What is happening today is that the process is in full swing and proceeding at an intensive pace. I want to convey a clear message to the entire APOEL community.

What is being confirmed once again is that the meetings, consultations, and analyses are continuing without interruption. For the first time in the history of Cypriot soccer, an agreement of this magnitude—with such a broad scope and complexity—is being pursued.

Before making any comparisons with other investment proposals that have been presented in Cypriot soccer, it must be understood that this particular case is different. Every investment has its own unique characteristics and its own set of circumstances.”

Regarding the atmosphere of the discussions between the two sides: “Consequently, it is not appropriate to make direct comparisons with agreements involving other teams that have already been finalized. I would also like to convey, on behalf of APOEL and its president, Mr. Haris Fotiou, that discussions are continuing in the same positive manner, with the same seriousness and the same willingness to reach an agreement that has existed from the very first day of the meeting between the investor, Mr. Savvaniotis, and APOEL.

At the same time, however, both the APOEL community and the media must realize that this is not a simple agreement that can be sealed with a handshake. We are talking about one of the country’s largest sports clubs, an organization with hundreds of thousands of supporters and a century of history.

This is a highly complex agreement, in which every detail is carefully examined and analyzed by all parties involved. Everyone’s common goal is the successful conclusion of the discussions and the reaching of an agreement. This is clear and has been reiterated many times.”

Regarding what lies ahead until an agreement is reached: “We do not want to give the impression that everything has already been finalized or that the agreement is a done deal. The investment proposal currently before APOEL is still under negotiation and still has significant stages to go through before it is finalized.

We are not approaching this process with grandstanding, nor with actions intended to create a spectacle. The last thing that reinforces the seriousness of such an important matter is to foster unrealistic expectations or to play on people’s emotions.

For the past four months, there has been a clear positive intention, and, most importantly, concrete steps are being taken to reach an agreement whose sole purpose is the long-term development and strengthening of the team. Right now, what is most important and takes precedence is the substantive work being done every day, methodically and with the utmost seriousness. This is a process that is unfolding with responsibility, attention to detail, and dedication so that, once completed, it will cover all areas related to APOEL in the best possible way.”
